TLDR Soy-based wound dressings can speed up healing and tissue regeneration.
The study explored the development of soy-based nanofibrous wound dressings as an alternative to estrogen for enhancing wound healing. Soy phytoestrogens, which preferentially activate the ER-β signaling pathway, were used to engineer scaffolds that mimic the extracellular matrix of healthy skin. These soy-based nanofibers demonstrated improved water retention, fibroblast proliferation, and migration, leading to accelerated tissue restoration in both mouse and human skin models. The scaffolds promoted re-epithelialization, ECM remodeling, and hair follicle formation, confirming their potential to enhance wound closure and tissue regeneration. The study suggested that these soy-based dressings could become a cost-effective solution for severe cutaneous wounds in primary care.
