TLDR Soy-based wound dressings can speed up healing and tissue regeneration.
The study explored the development of soy-based nanofibrous wound dressings as an alternative to estrogen for enhanced wound healing. Soy phytoestrogens, which preferentially activate the ER-β signaling pathway, were used to engineer scaffolds that mimic the extracellular matrix of healthy skin. These soy-based nanofibers demonstrated high water retention, promoting a moist environment conducive to healing, and significantly increased fibroblast proliferation and migration. The scaffolds accelerated tissue restoration in both mouse and human skin, promoting re-epithelialization, ECM remodeling, and hair follicle formation. The study concluded that soy-based dressings could enhance wound closure and tissue regeneration, offering a promising, cost-effective solution for severe cutaneous wounds.
