TLDR Mometasone furoate cream was more effective than bimatoprost solution for treating hair loss from Alopecia Areata.
The study compared the efficacy and safety of bimatoprost 0.03% and mometasone furoate 0.1% in treating Alopecia Areata (AA) in 60 patients over a period of 3 months. The patients were divided into two groups: Group A was treated with topical bimatoprost 0.03% solution twice daily, and Group B was treated with topical mometasone furoate 0.1% cream once daily. The results showed that 97% of patients in Group B responded to the treatment, while 80% of Group A patients responded. The response to both treatments was statistically significant (p-value was 0.000). Group B patients had better hair regrowth, faster recovery, higher patient satisfaction, and no documented side effects. The study concluded that bimatoprost 0.03% solution is a better therapeutic option for the treatment of AA involving eyebrows, scalp, and beard due to its safety and efficacy.

Latanoprost/bimatoprost's effectiveness in hair loss treatment is discussed, with its potential to convert vellus hairs to terminal hairs. It works differently from minoxidil and finasteride, and may be best for hairline application, but is not a replacement for them due to price and mechanism.
