TLDR Mometasone furoate cream was more effective than bimatoprost solution for treating hair loss from Alopecia Areata.
The study compared the efficacy and safety of bimatoprost 0.03% and mometasone furoate 0.1% in treating Alopecia Areata (AA) in 60 patients over a period of 3 months. The patients were divided into two groups: Group A was treated with topical bimatoprost 0.03% solution twice daily, and Group B was treated with topical mometasone furoate 0.1% cream once daily. The results showed that 97% of patients in Group B responded to the treatment, while 80% of Group A patients responded. The response to both treatments was statistically significant (p-value was 0.000). Group B patients had better hair regrowth, faster recovery, higher patient satisfaction, and no documented side effects. The study concluded that bimatoprost 0.03% solution is a better therapeutic option for the treatment of AA involving eyebrows, scalp, and beard due to its safety and efficacy.
