TLDR Bimatoprost helps mouse hair grow by turning on a specific growth pathway.
The study investigated the effect of Bimatoprost (BimP) on the growth of reconstructed hair follicles in 18 nude mice. The mice were divided into three groups: control, BimP, and minoxidil, with 6 mice in each group. After 2 weeks of daily topical treatment, the BimP group had thicker and longer hair compared to the control group, with no significant difference between the BimP and minoxidil groups. The BimP group also showed significantly increased mRNA and protein expression levels of Wnt3a, LEF1, β-catenin, and Frizzled7, which are associated with the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway. The study concluded that BimP promotes the growth of reconstructed hair follicles in mice by activating the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway.
