TLDR Aggressive SLE treatment helped hair regrowth and improved oral plaque, but scalp lesions stayed.
The document described a patient with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and antiphospholipid antibody syndrome (APLS) who developed a plaque-like lesion around the mouth and experienced total body hair loss. Initial biopsies suggested basal cell carcinoma, but were later identified as basaloid follicular hamartoma, a benign hair follicle malformation. Aggressive treatment of SLE led to hair regrowth and partial resolution of the oral plaque, though the scalp hamartomas persisted. The association between basaloid follicular hamartoma, alopecia, and SLE was rare, with only two cases previously reported, and none with APLS.
