TLDR Perforin and granzyme-B may influence hormone levels in women with PCOS.
This study investigated the relationship between perforin and granzyme-B levels and hyperandrogenism in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). It involved 43 women with PCOS and 40 control women. The study found that women with PCOS had lower levels of sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) and higher levels of luteinizing hormone (LH), free testosterone (FT), dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEA-S), free androgen index (FAI), perforin, and granzyme-B. Perforin and granzyme-B levels were positively correlated with FT and FAI in the PCOS group, suggesting that these proteins may play a role in the interactions of the sex hormone system in PCOS patients.
