TLDR Metabolic syndrome linked to female hair loss; waist size and high blood pressure important factors.
This study found a significant association between metabolic syndrome (MetS) and female pattern hair loss (FPHL) in women. Waist circumference and hypertension were important factors associated with the condition. The study recommends that women with FPHL, particularly if associated with an increased waist circumference or hypertension, should be screened for MetS criteria for early identification and management. However, the study had limitations, such as a small number of cases with stage III FPHL, and the need for a wider sample of cases with FPHL to confirm the findings.
