TLDR Botulinum toxin A effectively treated a man's facial cysts with no side effects and lasting results.
In 2016, a 29-year-old male with multiple facial apocrine hidrocystomas was successfully treated with botulinum toxin A (BTX-A). This treatment approach was novel as BTX-A had previously been used for eccrine but not apocrine hidrocystomas. The patient received injections in the glabellar region, which led to the full flattening of the lesions and significant clinical improvement without adverse effects. A second treatment at 8 months addressed a few residual lesions, and at a two-year follow-up, the patient had no lesions in the treated area. The case report highlighted BTX-A as an effective treatment option for multiple apocrine hidrocystomas, with the potential for ease of therapy, no scarring, minimal irritation, and a positive post-procedure outcome, although repeat treatments might be necessary to maintain results.
