TLDR Thevetia peruviana bark extract reduces pain in mice and may help create new painkillers.
The study investigated the antinociceptive activity of ethanol bark extract of Thevetia peruviana in Swiss albino mice using various pain models. The extract contained alkaloids, tannins, terpenoids, and flavonoids. In the acetic acid-induced writhing test, the extract showed a 40.04% inhibition at 400 mg/kg, compared to 65.6% by Diclofenac sodium. The extract also demonstrated dose-dependent antinociceptive activity in the formalin-induced nociception test and significant effects in the hot plate and tail immersion tests. The findings suggested that the extract had significant antinociceptive activity through a multifactorial mechanism, indicating potential for developing new analgesic drugs.
