TLDR Eclipta alba leaves have compounds that can fight certain harmful bacteria.
The study investigated the in vitro antibacterial activity of alkaloids isolated from Eclipta alba leaves against five human pathogenic bacteria using agar well diffusion and broth micro-dilution assays. The results showed that the inhibitory effect of the alkaloids increased with concentration, with the maximum inhibition observed at 500 μg/ml. Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli were more susceptible to the alkaloids than other bacteria tested. The findings suggested that E. alba could be a valuable source of antimicrobial agents for treating human pathogenic infections.
