TLDR The traditional herbal formulas Yongdamsagan-Tang and Paljung-san, along with the drug finasteride, can reduce inflammation and may work together without affecting each other's effectiveness against benign prostatic hyperplasia.
The research investigated the anti-inflammatory effects of traditional herbal formulas Yongdamsagan-Tang (YST) and Paljung-san (PJS), and the drug finasteride on LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells. It was found that YST, PJS, and finasteride inhibited the production of nitric oxide, prostaglandin E2, and interleukin-6. YST and PJS also inhibited the activities of several cytochrome P450 enzymes and uridine diphosphate-glucuronosyltransterases. However, the IC50 values for most enzymes were high, suggesting these formulas might not influence the metabolism of other drugs. The study concluded that combining finasteride with YST or PJS might not affect each other's drug metabolism and could have synergistic effects against benign prostatic hyperplasia.
