TLDR Baldness (androgenic alopecia) could be a risk factor for prostate cancer.
The study "The Relationship between Androgenic Alopecia and Prostate Cancer" conducted in 2015 investigated the link between androgenic alopecia (AGA) and prostate cancer (PC). The case-control study involved 75 prostate cancer patients and 75 healthy individuals. The mean age of the PC group was 69.08 ± 8.97 years, and the healthy group was 68.45 ± 10.16 years. The average level of PSA was 10.86 ± 11.7 ng/ml in the PC group and 2.66 ± 2.7 ng/ml in the healthy group. The average duration of cancer was 12.63 ± 9.19 months in the PC group. The study found that the number of cancer patients with both frontal and vertex alopecia exceeded healthy individuals (P=0.002). The study concluded that there was a significant relationship between prostate cancer and androgenic alopecia, possibly due to the effect of androgens on both diseases. Therefore, androgenic alopecia could be considered a risk factor for prostate cancer.
