Amitriptyline-Induced Telogen Effluvium in a Patient with Cervical Disc Prolapse: A Case Report

This case report discusses a 29-year-old female who experienced telogen effluvium, a reversible form of hair loss, after starting amitriptyline for neuropathic pain related to cervical disc prolapse. The hair loss began 45 days after starting the medication and resolved within 31 days of stopping it. The report underscores the importance of recognizing amitriptyline as a potential, though rare, cause of drug-induced alopecia and highlights the need for early identification and management to avoid unnecessary distress and interventions.
