TLDR Adding amber particles to polyamide fibers makes them suitable for medical textiles like compression socks.
The document from 2016 describes a study on the production of polyamide 6 (PA6) composite fibers with amber particles for use in medical textiles. The amber particles, with an average size of up to 3 µm, were incorporated into the fibers during the melt-spinning process. The study found that a grinding process of 30 minutes produced the optimal particle size for fiber processing, and these particles covered about 20% of the filament area. Although the tensile strength of the amber composite fibers was lower than that of the initial PA6 fibers (16.35 cN/dtex compared to 32.09 cN/dtex), the fibers were still considered strong enough for medical applications like compression socks and tights. The fibers were also found to be biocompatible with skin cells, suggesting potential for medical use due to the biostimulating effects of amber. The research was funded by a European consortium and supported by the Riga Technical University.
