TLDR Althaea officinalis helps wounds heal faster in rats.
The study investigated the effects of Althaea officinalis (AO) on wound healing in 48 male Wistar rats, divided into four groups, including control, gel-base, and 5% and 10% AO-gel treatments. The AO-treated groups showed significantly higher fibroblast populations, hair follicles, and mean diameter of vessels in the dermis compared to control and base groups. Additionally, collagen bundle synthesis was notably higher in the 10% AO-treated group. The findings suggested that AO could be a potential alternative medicine for wound healing, though further clinical investigations were recommended.
