TLDR The treatment for alopecia areata with diphenylcyclopropenone was unsuccessful.
The document reported a case of candidiasis-endocrinopathy syndrome (CES) associated with alopecia areata, characterized by chronic mucocutaneous candidiasis and endocrine dysfunction. Histological examination of the scalp showed minor inflammation, significant hair follicle atrophy, and sclerotic whorls near the hair papillae. A treatment trial using diphenylcyclopropenone was unsuccessful, likely due to the long-standing nature of alopecia areata and the patient's immune deficiency. Additionally, the patient had agenesis of the spleen, a condition not previously reported in CES, and its significance was discussed.
