This study investigates the activity of alkaline phosphatase (A.P.) in different stages of alopecia areata and alopecia totalis. Alkaline phosphatase is an enzyme involved in various metabolic processes, but its specific role in skin metabolism is unclear. Previous reports indicated decreased A.P. activity in hair papillae during early alopecia areata. The study involved 10 scalp biopsies from patients with varying stages of hair loss and regrowth, including areas treated with hydrocortisone injections. The research aims to further understand A.P. activity in these conditions.
