TLDR Calcium and magnesium in hair increase with age and are higher in adult women.
The study analyzed 322 hair samples from individuals aged 0-89 years and found that calcium and magnesium concentrations in scalp hair increased with age up to 25 years and were significantly higher in adult women compared to men. Sulfur, zinc, and copper concentrations did not show significant age or sex dependence. The findings suggested a strong age and sex dependence for calcium and magnesium, highlighting the need for further research to understand the physiology of their excretion through scalp hair.
