TLDR Agaricus subrufescens improves ovarian function and biochemical health in rats with PCOS.
The study examined the effects of Agaricus subrufescens on rats with Letrozole-induced polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). Thirty female Wistar rats were divided into five groups, with some receiving Agaricus subrufescens and others clomiphene citrate. Results showed that Agaricus subrufescens significantly improved physiological parameters, including blood glucose, testosterone levels, and menstrual irregularities. It also normalized liver enzymes (SGOT and SGPT) and reduced serum urea and creatinine, indicating a protective effect on renal function. Histopathological analysis revealed fewer cysts in treated groups compared to untreated PCOS rats, suggesting Agaricus subrufescens as a potential therapeutic agent for PCOS.
