TLDR Androgenetic alopecia may predict metabolic syndrome, so routine screening is recommended to prevent cardiovascular issues.
This cross-sectional study in Northeast India involved 150 patients with androgenetic alopecia (AGA) and found that 36% had metabolic syndrome (MetS). Significant associations were observed between AGA and MetS components, including high waist circumference, low HDL levels, and hypertension. The study suggests AGA could predict MetS, recommending routine MetS screening in patients with early onset and higher grades of AGA to prevent long-term complications like cardiovascular diseases. It emphasizes the importance of monitoring lipid profiles in AGA patients due to potential cardiovascular risks.
