TLDR The document concluded that home treatments are needed for hair loss control, but professionals should better understand how these treatments work.
The document from 2019 investigated the most commonly used cosmetic assets in products for treating androgenetic alopecia (AAG), a type of hair loss affecting both men and women, presented at the Hair Brasil® 2018 Congress. The research was descriptive and quantitative, analyzing different brands that produce hair loss treatment products. The most common actions among the active compounds in these products were anti-inflammatory, regenerative, antiseptic, seborregulatory, protein synthesis stimulating, and 5-alpha reductase enzyme inhibiting. However, few studies had shown the mechanism of action of these active substances in treating AAG. The document concluded that home treatment with these assets is necessary to control hair loss, but professionals need a more in-depth understanding of these assets' mechanisms of action to safely recommend home-use products.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.
