TLDR Activated PRP injections are effective in treating hair loss and improving hair density.
This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluated the clinical effectiveness and safety of autologous activated platelet-rich plasma (A-PRP) injections for treating alopecia. A total of 29 human clinical studies involving 864 patients were analyzed. The majority of studies (27 out of 29) reported positive outcomes, showing that A-PRP significantly improves hair density, promotes hair regrowth, folliculogenesis, reduces hair loss, and initiates the hair cycle. The pooled analysis demonstrated a significant increase in the number of hairs per cm² and terminal hairs per cm² in treated patients compared to controls. This review supports the use of A-PRP as an effective treatment for alopecia.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.

The post and conversation are about a user who made their own Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) for hair loss treatment at home, using their own blood and a centrifuge. The responses vary, with some users supporting the DIY approach to save money, others expressing concern about the safety and effectiveness of the method, and a few joking about the lengths people will go to combat hair loss.
