TLDR Males with acne are more likely to have Metabolic Syndrome.
The study investigated the prevalence of Metabolic Syndrome (MetS) in post-adolescent male patients with acne vulgaris (AV) and its relation to acne severity. Conducted on 52 male patients with acne and 52 matched controls, the study found that MetS prevalence was significantly higher in acne patients (19.2%) compared to controls (5.8%), with an odds ratio of 3.9, indicating a significant association between AV and the risk of developing MetS. However, the severity of acne did not significantly correlate with MetS prevalence. The findings suggested that MetS was more common in patients with severe acne.
