TLDR The research found that certain characteristics like age, sex, race, marital status, and education level can influence whether alopecia patients stick to their hair loss treatment with topical minoxidil.
In 2019, a study involving 100 alopecia patients from a hair loss clinic was conducted to identify characteristics associated with adherence and non-adherence to topical minoxidil, a common treatment for hair loss. The patients had various types of alopecia, including androgenetic alopecia, central centrifugal cicatricial alopecia, traction alopecia, frontal fibrosing alopecia, and lichen planopilaris. The study, which was the first of its kind, used a self-administered socio-demographic survey and the Morisky, Green, and Levine (MGL) Adherence Scale to evaluate patient characteristics and adherence levels. The study aimed to understand minoxidil adherence based on factors such as age, sex, race, marital status, and educational level.
