TLDR Platelet-rich fibrin might be a promising treatment for hair loss, but more research is needed to confirm its effectiveness.
The document reviews the use of platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) as a new treatment for androgenetic alopecia (AGA), a common cause of hair loss. PRF, a second-generation platelet concentrate, offers advantages such as quick preparation time, no requirement for external anticoagulant, and a steady sustained release of growth factors over a longer period. Studies have shown that PRF may release growth factors more gradually, potentially leading to more potent and durable effects. However, large-scale clinical trials are still needed to confirm these findings. The document also reviews several studies focusing on the effects of different centrifugation forces and times on the concentration of platelets, leukocytes, and growth factors. The results showed an increase in hair density and patient satisfaction. However, there is no consensus on the preparation of PRF and larger studies are needed to determine the optimal centrifugation force and time. The document concludes that larger, well-designed studies are needed to confirm the benefits of PRF over Platelet-rich plasma (PRP).
