    An autoimmune disease is a condition in which the immune system mistakenly attacks the body's own tissues, thinking they are foreign invaders. This can lead to inflammation, tissue damage, and impaired function of the affected organs. Examples include rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and alopecia areata, where the immune system targets hair follicles, leading to hair loss.
