TLDR A woman and her guinea pig were successfully treated for a fungal infection.
A 32-year-old woman presented with tender, pruritic lesions on the vulva and shins, which were unresponsive to initial treatments. Biopsies revealed Majocchi's granuloma caused by Trichophyton mentagrophytes, likely contracted from her pet guinea pig. The patient was successfully treated with ketoconazole cream and oral terbinafine, showing significant improvement and remaining clear 4 months post-treatment. The guinea pig was also treated successfully with systemic terbinafine and miconazole lotion.
