TLDR Pregnant women with hair loss often have low zinc and iron levels.
This study investigated the levels of zinc and ferritin in pregnant women in Al Muthanna Province, Iraq, and their association with hair loss. Seventy-five samples were collected from three groups: a control group, pregnant women with hair loss, and non-pregnant women with hair loss, between November 2020 and May 2021. The study concluded that low serum zinc and ferritin levels are common in pregnant women experiencing hair loss. The findings suggest that zinc and ferritin deficiencies are significant public health issues in Iraq, and that improving nutritional diversity could mitigate these risks among the study participants.
