Structural Analysis of a Washing Machine Cylinder
January 2010
TLDR The washing machine cylinder can crack at 15 kg and 2400 rpm, which is higher than normal use.
The thesis analyzed the structural behavior of a washing machine cylinder, focusing on the maximum load it could endure before crack propagation. Three experiments were conducted: two to estimate the mechanical properties of the stainless steel used, and one to measure strains under specific conditions (11 kg load and 2200 rpm). Numerical models suggested that crack propagation could occur at 15 kg and 2400 rpm, a load higher than typical operating conditions, raising questions about potential overestimation.
