TLDR Early onset hair loss is linked to low vitamin D, but severity isn't related to vitamin D levels.
This study investigated the association between serum vitamin D levels and premature androgenetic alopecia in 50 males with the condition and 50 healthy controls. Results showed that mean serum vitamin D levels were significantly lower in cases compared to controls (13.90 vs. 28.4 nmol/L; P ≤ 0.001), with 87% of cases having a deficiency (<25 nmol/L). However, no correlation was found between the severity of androgenetic alopecia and serum vitamin D levels (P = 1.65). The study concludes that early onset androgenetic alopecia is associated with vitamin D deficiency, but the severity of hair loss does not correlate with vitamin D levels.
