TLDR Vitamin C supplementation can resolve pulmonary arterial hypertension caused by vitamin C deficiency.
A man in his 60s developed pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) due to severe vitamin C deficiency, which was linked to decreased endothelial nitric oxide and activation of hypoxia-inducible transcription factors. His symptoms, including dyspnea, lower extremity swelling, and rash, improved significantly after 5 months of vitamin C supplementation, which normalized his vitamin C levels and reduced his pulmonary artery systolic pressure. This case underscored the importance of testing for vitamin C deficiency in PAH patients and suggested that vitamin C supplementation alone could resolve PAH without the need for additional treatments.
