TLDR Vitamin C supplementation can resolve pulmonary arterial hypertension caused by vitamin C deficiency.
The document reported a case of a man in his 60s who developed pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) due to severe vitamin C deficiency. The deficiency led to decreased endothelial nitric oxide availability and activation of hypoxia-inducible transcription factors, contributing to PAH. The patient's PAH resolved after vitamin C supplementation, highlighting the importance of testing for vitamin C deficiency in PAH patients. This case was unique as the PAH resolved with vitamin C supplementation alone, without iron supplementation or PAH-specific treatment. The study suggested that vitamin C deficiency could be a significant factor in PAH development and that vitamin C supplementation might have therapeutic potential for PAH patients with vitamin C deficiency.
