TLDR Venlafaxine can cause hair loss, which stops after discontinuation.
A 33-year-old woman with recurrent major depression experienced significant hair loss after starting venlafaxine at 75 mg/day, despite normal thyroid function and vitamin levels. Her hair loss became intolerable by the fourth month, but decreased within one month and stopped completely by the second month after discontinuing venlafaxine. This case highlighted that venlafaxine, though rarely, can cause hair loss, and clinicians should consider this potential side effect to avoid compromising treatment adherence.
