Role of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor in Hair Follicle Biology

TLDR VEGF is important for hair growth and cycle control.
Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) was identified as a crucial regulator of angiogenesis and played a significant role in hair follicle growth and cycle modulation. As an autocrine growth factor in dermal papilla cells, VEGF stimulated hair follicle growth. In endothelial cells, VEGF functioned by binding to its receptor, leading to receptor dimerization, autophosphorylation, and activation of intracellular signaling pathways. However, it remained unclear whether this molecular mechanism was present in hair follicle growth.
