TLDR Vitamin D receptor gene changes don't affect alopecia areata risk.
The study aimed to investigate the role of Vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene polymorphisms in the development of alopecia areata (AA), a disease characterized by hair loss and affecting 1%-2% of the population. The research involved 198 patients with AA and 167 controls, analyzing the frequency of VDR gene polymorphisms using PCR and RFLP methods. The results showed no significant association between the VDR gene polymorphisms (BsmI, ApaI, TaqI) and AA, suggesting that these polymorphisms did not play a role in genetic susceptibility to the disease.
