TLDR Differences in growth factors in platelet-rich plasma therapy for hair loss can vary between patients and can be influenced by the devices used, possibly leading to inconsistent results.
In 2019, a study involving 34 volunteers investigated the variability in platelet-derived growth factors during platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy for hair loss. The research used two different FDA-cleared devices to prepare PRP. The findings revealed significant variability in the expression and levels of growth factors in PRP between patients, particularly for VEGF and EGF, with the least variability for TGFB1. The study also found individual differences in growth factor levels when comparing PRP prepared from both devices. The conclusion was that these differences in growth factors could be inherent between patients and could also be influenced by the devices used to prepare PRP, potentially leading to inconsistent clinical responses.
