TLDR Recurrent vaginal bleeding in young girls without puberty signs may require a genital exam to find hidden causes.
The study investigated the causes of pre-pubertal vaginal bleeding in 17 patients, with a mean age of 7.4 years. All patients showed a pre-pubertal response in GnRH stimulation tests and had pre-pubertal uterine findings on pelvic ultrasound. Two cases were attributed to foreign bodies, and removal of these foreign bodies stopped the bleeding. The study concluded that recurrent vaginal bleeding in pre-pubertal girls was not linked to hormonal abnormalities or unusual ultrasound findings, and recommended genital examination under anesthetic to identify undiagnosed causes.
