TLDR Non-infectious skin issues like eczema are common in rural areas, especially in men aged 40-60.
This cross-sectional study conducted in Pudukottai district over 3 months examined the prevalence of skin diseases among 5,870 individuals attending preventive health camps, with 1,468 presenting dermatological complaints. The study found that non-infectious dermatoses, such as eczema and pigmentary disorders, were most common, particularly among males aged 40-60. Infectious dermatoses, primarily fungal infections, were the second most common. The findings highlight the need for health programs tailored to community needs and suggest further research to improve diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive strategies for dermatological conditions in rural populations.
