Increased Expression of TSPEAR in Colorectal Cancer Predicts Poor Prognosis

SCUBE3, a protein linked to hair growth in moles, was discovered over 25 years ago and is being developed by Amplifica for potential hair loss treatment. Concerns exist about SCUBE3's association with cancer, as it is a protein that promotes cell growth, which could potentially trigger cancer development if used for hair growth therapy.

Exosomes from mesenchymal stem cells can increase hair growth by enhancing anagen duration and hair shaft thickness through the Wnt/beta-catenin pathway. Phase 2 trials show improved hair counts over 24 weeks.

PP405 trials have completed phase 2a, showing promising results with a 31% stat for hair density increase, and are moving directly to phase 3. Detailed results will be presented at a medical conference in 2026.

A peptide from Japanese water chestnut fruit may help with hair loss by suppressing DHT's effect on hair follicle cell death, potentially serving as a finasteride alternative. The treatment's effectiveness and safety in humans remain uncertain.

Finasteride, Minoxidil, Bioneer CosmeRNA, Technoderma, Kintor, Hope, Breezula, and Follicum treatments showed increases in hair count, with Technoderma showing the highest increase at 24.3 hairs/cm². Amplifica has not yet published results.

He Shou Wu (Fo Ti) extract was found to prolong the hair growth phase, inhibit 5-alpha-reductase (like finasteride), reduce androgen receptors, and increase growth factors, potentially outperforming minoxidil in recovering hair follicle size after DHT exposure. Two compounds, emodin and TSG, are identified as responsible for these effects and warrant further investigation.
