TLDR Frontalis suspension surgery using autologous fascia lata is effective for treating unilateral congenital ptosis with poor levator function.
The study reviewed the surgical correction of unilateral congenital ptosis, focusing on frontalis suspension for poor levator function. It highlighted that unilateral, poor levator function congenital ptosis is the most common form, with the left eye most frequently affected. Significant advancements were made in sling materials and techniques, with autologous fascia lata identified as the preferred material due to its low complication rate. Direct fixation of the sling material to the tarsal plate was shown to increase success rates. The review concluded that while the basic surgical approach has remained consistent, these recent findings can enhance esthetic outcomes and safety.
