TLDR Use corticosteroid cream and triamcinolone injections for treating alopecia areata, and consider wigs and tranquilizers for support.
In 1969, Dr. Mauray Joel Tye discussed the treatment of alopecia areata, a condition characterized by sudden, patchy hair loss. The etiology remained unclear, though emotional distress and hypersensitivity diseases were considered potential factors. Treatment with fluorinated corticosteroid cream and triamcinolone acetonide injections showed some success, particularly in adults, though regrowth was less frequent in children. Dr. Tye recommended applying corticosteroid cream multiple times daily and, if necessary, administering triamcinolone injections. Systemic corticosteroids were discouraged due to temporary results. Wigs were suggested for cosmetic and emotional support, and tranquilizers could be beneficial if emotional trauma was involved.
