TLDR Dupilumab successfully treated a woman's alopecia areata and bullous pemphigoid, leading to full hair regrowth and symptom resolution.
This case report describes a 71-year-old female with coexisting alopecia areata (AA) and bullous pemphigoid (BP) who was successfully treated with dupilumab. Initially, the patient experienced significant hair loss and blistering despite various treatments. After starting dupilumab, her condition improved dramatically, with complete scalp hair regrowth and resolution of BP lesions within 6 months. The patient remained in remission for nearly 2 years after discontinuing dupilumab. This case highlights the potential of dupilumab, an IL-4/IL-13 inhibitor, in treating autoimmune conditions like AA and BP, suggesting a shared immunological pathway involving Th1 and Th2 responses. Further research is needed to optimize therapies for such complex autoimmune diseases.
