Tissue Expanders for Hair Restoration in the Scalp: Overexpansion Does Matter

    The study conducted at Ahmed Maher Teaching Hospital in Cairo involved 25 patients and used 28 tissue expanders to investigate the effectiveness of tissue expanders for restoring scalp hair loss due to burns or trauma. The findings indicate that overexpansion is beneficial, leading to satisfactory outcomes with fewer complications when combined with careful patient selection and follow-up. The study achieved a 100% success rate in total reconstruction of alopecia, with minimal complications at a rate of 19.35%. All patients reported satisfaction with the results. The study concludes that tissue expansion is a safe and effective method for scalp reconstruction, emphasizing the importance of careful patient evaluation and expander selection.
