TLDR Fecal microbiota transplantation effectively reduces symptoms of Feline Hyperesthesia Syndrome in cats.
A study on 23 cats with Feline Hyperesthesia Syndrome (FHS) investigated the effectiveness of fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) in reducing symptoms such as excessive grooming, vocalization, and alopecia. The cats underwent between 1 and 4 FMT sessions, and the results showed a significant decrease in symptoms like loud vocalization, struggling, and hyperesthesia. The overall clinical response rate was 86.95%, with 69.56% of cats achieving clinical remission and 17.39% showing improvement. No side effects were observed, indicating that FMT is a highly effective treatment for FHS.
