TLDR Piper cubeba and Aquilaria sinensis may help prevent or treat prostate issues by balancing hormones.
The study explored the potential of tropical medicinal plants to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and prostate cancer (PC) by targeting hormone imbalances. Twenty herbal plants were screened, and four extracts were selected for further investigation. Among them, Piper cubeba (P9605) and Aquilaria sinensis (Aquil) showed promising results. P9605 inhibited enzymes involved in synthesizing dihydrotestosterone and estradiol, antagonized dihydrotestosterone effects, and inhibited inflammatory mediators. Aquil had similar properties but did not affect inflammatory mediators. These findings suggested that these plants could potentially prevent or alleviate BPH and PC due to their anti-androgenic and anti-estrogenic properties.
