The Punching-Out Technique to Reduce the FUT Scar

Ito Meireles Filho, Henrique N. Radwanski
TLDR The "punching-out" technique effectively reduces the appearance of FUT scars.
The study introduces a new "punching-out" technique to reduce the appearance of widened scars from previous follicular unit transplant (FUT) procedures. This method involves thinning the scar by punching out sections and then resuturing the area. The technique is advantageous because it is quick (taking less than 10-15 minutes), requires no additional follicular units, and uses existing skills and equipment of hair restoration surgeons. The study, conducted on 58 patients, demonstrated improved scar appearance using this method.
