The Effects of X-irradiation on Collagen Metabolism in Rat Skin

TLDR X-irradiation reduces collagen in rat skin, causing delayed skin damage.
The study investigated the effects of X-irradiation on collagen metabolism in rat skin across three hair cycles. It found that while a single X-radiation treatment did not alter the amino-acid composition of collagen, it did reduce the proline hydroxylation capacity of fibroblasts. This reduction led to decreased collagen concentration in the skin, which was particularly evident after several hair cycles and contributed to delayed skin lesions post-irradiation.
