TLDR Mesenchymal stem cells can become hair follicle stem cells using hair follicle supernatant.
The study demonstrated that mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) isolated from rat bone marrow could be induced to differentiate into hair follicle stem cells using the supernatant of cultured hair follicles in vitro. The MSCs, characterized by markers CD44 and CD29, showed positive staining for keratin 15, a marker specific to hair follicle stem cells, after induction. This was confirmed by immunohistochemical and immunofluorescence staining, as well as RT-PCR after 3 weeks of induction. The findings suggested that MSCs had the potential to transdifferentiate into hair follicle stem cells under the influence of hair follicle conditioned medium.
