TLDR Transglutaminase-3 is often reduced in esophageal cancer.
The study investigated the role of Transglutaminase-3 (TGase-3) in human esophageal cancer. Researchers conducted mRNA differential display on 3 pairs of esophageal cancer tissues and matched normal mucosa, identifying a consistent down-regulation of TGase-3 in cancerous tissues. This was confirmed through Northern blot and dot blot analyses of 14 samples, and RT-PCR showed decreased TGase-3 expression in 35 out of 38 tumors compared to normal mucosa. Overall, 49 out of 52 (94.2%) esophageal tumors exhibited down-regulation of TGase-3, suggesting that its altered expression was a common event in the development of esophageal cancer.
