TLDR Various skin conditions like cutaneous lupus erythematosus, psoriasis, and basal cell carcinoma can be effectively treated with antihypertensive agents, NB-UVB phototherapy, and imiquimod cream respectively. Vaccines are effective against genital herpes and HPV-16 infection. Early intervention is crucial for conditions like diabetic foot ulcers and neonatal herpes. Certain dyes can cause hand dermatitis, and there's a link between smoking/drinking and psoriasis in men. No direct link was found between low iron levels and chronic hair loss in women.
In 2003, multiple studies were conducted on various skin conditions and their treatments. A retrospective review of 120 patients found that antihypertensive agents were most commonly implicated in drug-induced cutaneous lupus erythematosus (CLE). Other studies highlighted the underrecognition of steroid-induced hypersensitivity, the prevalence of skin manifestations due to arsenicosis in Bangladesh, and the importance of early intervention in conditions like diabetic foot ulcers, neonatal herpes simplex virus infection, and pediatric vasculitis. Research on vaccines found the glycoprotein D vaccine effective against genital herpes in certain women, and the HPV-16 vaccine reduced the incidence of HPV-16 infection and related cervical intraepithelial neoplasia. A study on 113 patients found that thrice-weekly NB-UVB phototherapy was more effective for treating psoriasis than twice-weekly therapy. Other research found Disperse Blue dyes and Disperse Orange 3 common sensitizers in hand dermatitis, monoclonal antibodies effective in treating psoriasis, and a strong association between smoking/drinking and psoriasis in men. Two studies found that 5% imiquimod cream was effective in treating primary nodular basal cell carcinoma. Lastly, a study involving 194 females found no direct relationship between low serum ferritin and chronic diffuse telogen hair loss.
