TLDR Infliximab successfully treated a severe hair loss case in Sri Lanka.
This case report from Sri Lanka detailed the successful treatment of a 41-year-old woman with refractory alopecia universalis using infliximab, a TNF alpha inhibitor. Alopecia areata is an autoimmune disorder affecting hair follicles, and its pathogenesis involves both cell-mediated and humoral immunity. TNF alpha plays a dual role in this condition, contributing to both hair loss and protection against it. While there have been reports of alopecia areata developing after infliximab treatment for other conditions, this case highlighted its potential efficacy in treating refractory alopecia universalis.
