TLDR Mouse hair follicles grow best in a special medium, especially when cut and from adult mice.
The study established an in vitro culture model for mouse vibrissa follicles using serum-free medium. Results showed that follicles in the early anagen phase grew significantly faster than those in other phases, and adult mouse follicles exhibited better hair fiber growth compared to 7-day-old mice. Additionally, follicles with the upper one-third excised grew faster than intact or mixed cut follicles. The use of Williams medium E with L-glutamine supported follicle growth for over 8 days.
